Beyond the weight saving: how aerospace-grade titanium alloys handle exhaust temperatures differently, and what that means for durability and finish.
Titanium is roughly 40% lighter than stainless steel by volume, but that is only the beginning of the story. The alloy grades used in exhaust construction also tolerate higher sustained temperatures without softening, which lets the tract run hotter and flow more efficiently.
The characteristic bronze-to-blue heat colouring seen on a well-used Akrapovič system is not decorative — it is a visible record of how the tract has cycled through its operating temperatures.
Because titanium is less forgiving to weld, every seam is TIG-welded by hand and inspected before the system leaves the facility. This is one of the reasons production remains centralised in Slovenia.
